What We Wish We Knew Before We Bought Our House

We bought our first house 2 and a half years ago and there are some things we wish we knew before we bought our house.

I have some advice on what we wish we knew before we bought our house!
My number one piece of advice for first time home buyers is to think of your future needs, not just your current needs!! Think of what may be important to you in the future for your family.
Another tip would be to make a list of things that you must have and things that would be nice to have. Homes.com has an amazing Match feature that can do this for you!
When browsing Homes.com, you can add filters of the features that are must haves and nice to haves. If you choose the feature to be a must have, it will only show houses containing that feature. If you choose the feature to be a nice to have, it will prioritize houses with that feature.
They have filters for really unique items such as hardwood floors, bonus room, fireplace, 1st floor master, basement, and more! This really allows you to customize your search.
Homes.com makes the home search process a lot quicker by having all of these filters. This way you don't have to sift through a bunch of houses that don't fit your needs.
I remember browsing online and only being able to filter out very basic features so we were constantly scrolling through homes that weren't our style. This new Match tool on Homes.com would've been so fun and convenient!
Here are some examples of what our current needs are that were future needs when we bought our house. Nothing major, just things we didn't think of when we were buying our house.
1. 4 Bedrooms. At the time, we were a family of 2 so 3 bedrooms made complete sense. Now, we are a family of 3 with plans to have future children, so we will quickly run out of bedroom space. Also, our parents don't live nearby and need to stay over when they come to visit.
2. A playroom. Again, when we were buying our house, we didn't have any little ones, although we wanted babies, we didn't really think of the need for a playroom. Luckily, we had an extra family room/sunroom that we were able to turn into a playroom (see that makeover HERE).
3. An open kitchen. We never cared about an open kitchen because we didn't have kids at the time. Now after having Dominic, an open kitchen would be nice so that we can see Dominic while we are cooking.
Life changes and so do your needs for a home. If you can try to think of what you will eventually need, you can include those needs as must haves or nice to haves. Even though hindsight is 20/20, think of your future plans when buying a house.
