I love styling kitchen countertops. I love the creativity that comes with it.
I try to follow a few ‘rules’ when styling a kitchen countertop, but these are just my personal preference. You should always do what you love, but I find that if I stick to these, my kitchen is always a happy place!
Since we recently got our backsplash installed, I have been loving playing around with the decor in here. It now feels complete in here. The backsplash is the perfect compliment for the decor in the kitchen.
HOW TO STYLE KITCHEN COUNTERTOPS
Keep it simple: I don’t like a lot of clutter on our countertops. We cook almost 6 days a week so I find the less I have out, the easier it is. This allows us to cook and not have to move things around that may be in the way. This also helps with not having to clean things up that may get spills or splatters on them from cooking. In keeping things simple, I will switch things out to change up the look.
Keep things out that are functional: this has been so helpful! I try to only decorate with things that we use daily or very frequently. For us, that includes the coffee pot, mugs, knives, cooking utensils, salt/pepper/oil dispensers, strainer, hot plates, and our soap. I love having things we need daily easily accessible. I have found a lot of pretty ways to store these everyday items so that they look nice on display.
Add some personal touches: for me, that includes plants or flowers and some art work. I find that because the items we use daily are stored in pretty things, they act as decor themselves which helps me keep the rest of the decor really simple. Some other ideas could be serving platters, pots or bowls, canisters, cutting boards, etc.
Another thing I like to do in a kitchen is cover outlets with decor. That’s just something I like to do as I think it makes the flow of the kitchen more seamless rather than breaking it up with the outlets. It’s pretty easy to just move things out of the way when we need the outlet too.
I like to stick to a similar color palette and then add in different textures. I like having natural or organic feeling pieces in the kitchen such as terra cotta pots, wood pieces, and glass or ceramic items.
I love playing around in the kitchen and changing things up. It keeps it fun and fresh.
